Oppressive heat still haunts the nation’s midsection

Rainfall over the last 24 hours has finally reached fields across central and western Iowa. While these were not drought-busting rains, they were critical to the 2017 crop in this area, which has been very dry over the last 20 days. Oppressive heat still haunts the nation’s midsection for the start of the weekend as triple digit heat spreads from Kansas and Nebraska east through Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois. The threat of severe weather also spreads across the upper Midwest today and tomorrow as humidity levels climb into the 80s at times.
