Agrible’s Chief Strategy Officer, Cynthia Bruno, was named a member of the Field to Market Verification Committee. The Verification Committee oversees the creation, refinement, and publication of governance and process documents that will enhance the credibility and transparency of Field to Market’s program. This is one of four standing committees set up to guide and influence the direction of Field to Market.

Field to Market is Agrible’s partner helping growers share their sustainability story through their Sustainable Sourcing platform in Morning Farm Report. We sat down with Bruno to talk to her about her upcoming role on the Field to Market Verification Committee and what she hopes to do in her role.

Agrible:
How did you choose the Verification Committee over the other 4 committees?

Bruno:
The Verification Committee plays a tremendously important role in the next steps of sustainability for everyone involved- growers, processors, brands and companies, retailers, and consumers. As people continue to demand more information about how the ingredients are grown for products, everyone is looking for ways to tell their credible sustainability stories.

The protocols and rules the Verification Committee develops is crucial to ensuring that consumers and the public are getting good information based off of scientifically sound data and sustainable practices.

Agrible:
What are you looking forward to most about being apart of the committee?

Bruno:
I grew up in agriculture. My grandparents and my parents were growers, and now my brothers are as well. Ensuring that legacy for the next generation in agriculture is important to my family. I know how hard farmers work to take care of their land and responsibly grow ingredients that we, as consumers, use every day. I also know, as a mother, how important it is to have a good understanding of where my food comes from and how it’s grown.

This committee is responsible for ensuring there’s good criteria to make claims about that. I view this committee as playing a very important role in the supply chain. These claims need to be made in a transparent way so consumers know they can trust the information, growers know their sustainability stories are being told, and companies can accurately measure the impact their products have on the environment and work to improve.

Agrible:
How long will you serve on the committee?

Bruno
The terms are 2 years.

Agrible:
What are you hoping to gain from being an V.C. member?

Bruno
I’m hoping that the Verification Committee can work together to further the advancement of sustainability and help everyone in the supply chain see areas where they are excelling, and areas where they can improve. That starts with a practical framework and formalized process so there’s a credible way for Field to Market members to make claims that support the organization’s overarching mission.
