Meet the Interns: Scott Constantine, Geospatial Analytics

College/Major

I'm currently finishing up my Sophomore year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studying Geology and Geography/Geographic Information Science.

What are you working on at Agrible?

At Agrible, I am working on projects involving Geographic Information Systems (GIS), visualizing data in a spatial context via maps to draw new conclusions and find new avenues of research. I am also undertaking programming work to extend the capabilities of GIS systems.

What got you interested in interning at Agrible?

I first became interested in Agrible after attending the University of Illinois' annual 'GIS Day', which is a symposium that brings together geospatial researchers, academics, professionals, and students. It was here that I first learned about Agrible's innovative work in applying GIS technologies to the agricultural realm through a Q&A session given by an Agrible employee, and I eagerly approached him to learn more!

What do you hope to get out of your internship?

During my internship at Agrible, I hope to refine my GIS abilities through the direct application of what I have learned and am learning at the University of Illinois, and constantly improve my ability to create maps that allow for people to draw meaning and insight from complex datasets. I also hope to further improve my programming skills in a geospatial context; programming has long been a passion and hobby of mine, and I am blessed to be able to use what I have learned at Agrible!

If you could have lunch with one person, living or dead, who would it be?

If I could have lunch with one person, living or dead, it would be the late Fred Rogers of the children's television show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. I was one of the lucky children to have grown in his hometown of Pittsburgh, watching his show at a young age at the tail end of its run. But it was only in college that the true impact of that soft-spoken man was made apparent in my life after reading a heartfelt account of his life, and how he interacted with those around him. He sought to be fully and completely present to each and every person in his life, without regard to their significance or accomplishments, treating him or her like the only person in the world. Fred Rogers inspires me because I seek to bring compassion and a smile to the results-driven technology field, uniting my passion for technology with my iron-clad belief in the goodness of those around me.
